James Platt is an associate in the corporate and business law group at Kunzler focusing on emerging growth companies. He has experience in general corporate matters, financings, formations, licensing, leases, debt transactions, service agreements and venture and private equity fund portfolio transactions.
Before joining the firm, Mr. Platt clerked in-house with SkyWest Airlines where he assisted SkyWest’s General Counsel with transactional matters, regulatory compliance and corporate governance.
Mr. Platt earned his law degree from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College Of Law. During law school, he was an officer in both the Business Law and Sports Law student organizations and served as an associate at the University Venture Fund (UVF), an $18.2M student-run venture capital firm investing across a variety of deal stages and industries. At UVF he led and was involved in projects and deals in multiple industries including consumer products, enterprise software, medical devices, mobile apps and online marketplaces. Additionally, he performed faculty supervised research relating to recently reformed securities and business laws in the United States.
Prior to law school, Mr. Platt earned his B.S. degree in Exercise Science with a minor in Business Management from Brigham Young University in Provo, UT. During his undergraduate studies, Mr. Platt was a member of the Dixie State and BYU collegiate baseball teams. While at Dixie, he helped pitch Dixie to its first National Championship as the winning pitcher of the final game of the 2004 Junior College World Series.
Mr. Platt enjoys fishing, table tennis, longboarding and following collegiate sports.
